Styling a Primary Bedroom

I recently took on a new client’s primary bedroom. They were ready to move the baby out of the bedroom and reclaim their space. They wanted to keep their existing furniture and just do a refresh of all the decor, bedding, and light fixture. We kept the client’s existing bed, nightstands, and dresser, which were relatively new and neutral. The room is large with beautiful hardwood floors and tall ceilings, but it lacked personality and modern flair. Our goal was to create a sophisticated yet cozy retreat by introducing thoughtful, bold accents that would transform the space without a full overhaul. This approach is a great budget friendly way to decorate. Here is what the room looked like before:

One of the most transformative additions was the green velvet curtains. They brought in a luxurious texture and a rich, deep color that instantly elevated the room’s atmosphere. The soft drape of the fabric across the entire back wall contrasted beautifully with the otherwise all white room, creating a balanced and inviting aesthetic. Green, being a calming and nature-inspired hue, was the perfect choice to create a serene environment, making the bedroom feel more like a private sanctuary. The curtains also framed the windows elegantly, drawing the eye and adding height to the room. Once your eyes were drawn up to the tall ceilings, you immediately notice this amazing brass chandelier from Crate and Barrel. Shop this room here

To complement the curtains, we introduced a green rug that tied the color scheme together while adding warmth underfoot. The rug’s subtle pattern brought a modern touch, grounding the room and providing a soft layer of texture. Its placement helped define the space, making the bed area feel more cohesive and inviting. The green tones in both the rug and curtains worked harmoniously to create a unified look, while the natural fibers of the rug added an organic element that kept the space feeling grounded and comfortable.

A faux tree was added to bring a touch of nature indoors, further enhancing the calming vibe we aimed to create. The tree’s height and lush greenery added a sense of life and vibrancy to the room without requiring the maintenance of a real plant. Positioned in a corner, it softened the room’s edges and created a more dynamic visual flow. This touch of greenery was essential in making the space feel fresh and alive, while also aligning with the modern, nature-inspired aesthetic we were building.

Art and decor were the final layers that brought everything together. We selected contemporary pieces with clean lines and abstract designs that introduced a modern edge to the room. The artwork featured hints of green and complementary tones, tying into the overall color scheme while adding interest to the walls. Decorative accents, such as vases, books, and a few carefully chosen sculptures, were strategically placed on the nightstands and dresser to add personality and depth. These pieces not only filled the space with character but also reflected the client’s taste.

In the end, these thoughtful additions transformed the primary bedroom into a modern retreat, where each element worked together to create a cohesive and stylish space. The existing furniture served as a solid foundation, while the new curtains, rug, faux tree, art, and decor injected fresh energy into the room. This project is a perfect example of how updating just a few key elements can breathe new life into a space, making it feel both modern and uniquely personal.
